MXL Synchronous Belt 2.1″-177.1″, 2.032mm Pitch, 0.12″/0.19″/0.25″/0.37″ CR, ISO 5296

MXL Synchronous Belt with a 2.032 mm trapezoidal tooth profile for printers, copiers, scanners and precision miniature drives

Product Overview

The MXL Synchronous Belt (also known as the MXL Timing Belt) is an inch-pitch trapezoidal tooth belt with a 2.032 mm (0.080 inch) pitch. It is the smallest commonly used member of the classic inch-pitch belt family, engineered for miniature, light-duty precision drives where space is tight and exact timing matters.

Power is transmitted by the meshing of belt teeth with pulley grooves rather than by friction. The drive has no slip and no speed fluctuation, which is why MXL belts remain a standard choice for office equipment, small appliances and precision instruments.

The belt requires no lubrication, has no slip and no pollution, and runs with very low noise. Transmission efficiency reaches 98% or more, the speed ratio range extends to 1:10, and the allowed line speed reaches 50 m/s. Multi-shaft drives are fully supported.

The body is made of premium import synthetic chloroprene rubber (CR), blended with multiple rubber additives. The tensile member uses high-strength glass fiber cord, and the tooth surface is protected by specially treated Nylon 66 high-elastic fabric.

Materials & Construction

Every MXL Synchronous Belt is built with a proven three-layer composite structure using premium, industry-grade materials for stable dimensions and long service life.

Layer	Material	Function
Tensile Member (Core)	high-strength glass fiber cord	Carries the full tensile load with very low elongation, keeping the pitch length stable under load.
Body Compound	Premium synthetic chloroprene rubber (CR), blended with multiple rubber additives	Bonds and protects the cord, transmits the load, and resists heat, cold, oil, water and chemicals.
Tooth Facing	Specially treated Nylon 66 high-elastic fabric	Protects the tooth surface from wear, lowers friction against the pulley groove, and keeps the tooth form accurate.

Model Designation

An MXL belt is designated by its pitch line length code, followed by the letters MXL for the profile. Taking 200MXL as the example: 200 is the pitch line length code (20.0 inches) and MXL is the profile (2.032 mm pitch). Some models use fractional length codes such as 33.6MXL and 101.6MXL for non-integer inch lengths. Pitch line length in millimetres equals the length in inches multiplied by 25.4.
MXL Synchronous Belt Product Parameters and Representation Method
All MXL timing belts are manufactured to the ISO 5296 standard for inch-pitch trapezoidal tooth profiles with a 2.032 mm pitch, 0.51 mm tooth height and a 40-degree tooth angle, ensuring full dimensional interchangeability with equivalent-profile MXL timing belts from other mainstream international manufacturers.

Applications

Office & Consumer Equipment: Printers, copiers, scanners, paper feed mechanisms, small appliances.
Precision Instruments: Measuring devices, medical instruments, camera drives, miniature positioning systems.
Miniature Industrial Drives: Small conveyors, packaging equipment, vending machines, light automation.
MXL Synchronous Belt used in printer and copier paper feed, scan head and carriage drives for precise miniature transmission.

Installation & Maintenance

Inspect on receipt: Surface clean and tidy, belt not twisted, teeth full and well-formed.
Never bend or crimp: Bending damages the glass fiber tensile member and reduces belt strength.
Avoid scratches and chemicals: Do not scratch the belt. Avoid contact with chemicals, especially strong oxidising acids. Minimise prolonged exposure to oil and water.
Reduce tension before removal: Always release belt tension before removal. Never use unauthorised tools to pry the belt off under high tension.
Check pulley alignment: Pulleys must be parallel and coplanar.
Tension correctly: Just enough to prevent tooth jumping under maximum load. Over-tensioning shortens bearing life.
Keep drive clean: Remove oil, dust and debris. Replace at first sign of tooth wear or cracking.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an MXL timing belt?

The MXL timing belt is an inch-pitch trapezoidal tooth synchronous belt with a 2.032 mm (0.080 inch) pitch, a 0.51 mm tooth height and a 40-degree tooth angle. It is the smallest commonly used member of the inch-pitch belt family and is designed for miniature, light-duty precision drives where accurate timing and quiet running are essential.

What is the difference between MXL and XL timing belts?

Both use an inch-pitch trapezoidal tooth form, but they differ in size. MXL has a 2.032 mm (0.080 inch) pitch and a 0.51 mm tooth height, while XL has a 5.08 mm (0.200 inch) pitch and a 1.27 mm tooth height. MXL is used for the smallest drives and needs different, smaller pulleys, so the two are not interchangeable.

How do I read an MXL belt model number such as 200MXL?

The number is the pitch length code and MXL is the profile. In 200MXL, 200 is the pitch length code and MXL indicates the 2.032 mm pitch profile; pitch length in millimetres equals the length in inches multiplied by 25.4. Because some suppliers number MXL belts by length code and others by tooth count, always confirm the pitch length and the tooth count against your pulley before ordering.

What widths and lengths are available?

MXL belts are supplied in four standard widths of 0.12, 0.19, 0.25 and 0.37 inch (3.0, 4.8, 6.4 and 9.4 mm). Our range covers 363 standard model sizes from 21MXL to 1771MXL, and custom lengths can be manufactured on request.

What materials and construction do MXL belts use?

Every MXL belt uses a three-layer composite construction: a high-strength glass fiber tensile cord, a chloroprene rubber (CR) body, and a Nylon 66 high-elastic tooth facing for wear protection and low friction against the pulley groove.

What is the minimum pulley size and the maximum line speed for MXL belts?

The smallest recommended pulley has 10 teeth, giving a pitch diameter of about 6.47 mm (0.255 inch). The maximum line speed stated for this construction is 50 m/s, and the standard operating temperature range is -30 to +90 degrees Celsius.

What applications are MXL timing belts used for?

MXL belts are used for miniature precision drives such as office printers, copiers and paper feed mechanisms, scanners, shredders and binding machines, precision instruments and measuring equipment, camera drives, vending machines, and small consumer appliances and miniature automation.

Are MXL timing belts interchangeable with belts from other manufacturers?

Yes. Our MXL timing belts are manufactured to the ISO 5296 standard for inch-pitch trapezoidal tooth profiles with a 2.032 mm pitch, a 0.51 mm tooth height and a 40-degree tooth angle, and are fully dimensionally interchangeable with equivalent-profile MXL timing belts from other mainstream international manufacturers.
