HTD 8M belt installed on a CNC machine and automation drive for high-torque zero-slip industrial transmission

What Is an 8M Belt

The 8M Belt is the 8.00 mm pitch member of the HTD (High Torque Drive) curvilinear synchronous belt family. It transmits power by positive tooth engagement with the pulley, so there is no slip, no speed drift and no need for lubrication.

With a 3.38 mm tooth height and a 6.00 mm belt body, 8M is the go-to choice for mid-to-heavy industrial drives where precision and torque meet. Transmission efficiency reaches 98% or more, the speed ratio extends to 1:10, and the allowed line speed reaches 35 m/s.

Materials & Construction

LAYER 01 Tensile MemberImported high-strength glass fiber cord. Very low elongation, stable pitch length under heavy load.
LAYER 02 Body CompoundStandard belt body made of imported synthetic chloroprene rubber (CR); specialty compounds including hydrogenated nitrile (HNBR) available upon request.
LAYER 03 Tooth FacingSpecially treated Nylon 66 elastic fabric. Low friction, high wear resistance, protects the curvilinear tooth form.

Why Choose 8M HTD

Zero Slip

Tooth meshing ensures constant speed ratio under varying loads.

High Torque Capacity

8mm curvilinear teeth handle heavier loads than smaller pitch belts.

Maintenance-Free

No lubrication required, clean operation, minimal upkeep.

98%+ Efficiency

Almost no power lost to slip or creep.

Quiet Operation

Curvilinear tooth profile reduces meshing noise vs. trapezoidal belts.

Long Service Life

Excellent dynamic flex, ozone, aging, heat and wear resistance.

Chemical Resistance

CR body resists oil, water, acids and alkalis in standard construction.

Multi-Shaft Capable

Suitable for complex drive layouts with several pulleys.

Applications

CNC machinery: machining centers, routers, plasma cutters, feed drives.
Automation: linear modules, pick-and-place systems, conveyor lines.
Packaging: filling machines, cartoners, labeling equipment.
Printing: presses, plotters, wide-format printers.
General industrial: pumps, compressors, blowers, textile machines.
Replacement drives: Direct swap on existing HTD 5M pulley systems, ISO 13050 compliant for universal interchangeability.

How to Select Width & Length

On an 8M drive, width determines torque capacity. A wider belt carries more load on the same pulleys. Match belt width to the pulley face width, then select pitch length based on your center distance.

Width	Typical Use
20 mm	Light-to-medium CNC, 3D routers, small automation
25 mm	Standard CNC mills, general automation
30 mm	Medium-duty conveyors, packaging machines
50 mm	Heavy CNC, larger linear systems
85 mm	Industrial machinery, processing equipment

Teeth count = pitch length ÷ 8. All lengths and widths are handled through the product options.

All 8M timing belts are manufactured to the ISO 13050 standard for synchronous belt drives (8M profile), ensuring full dimensional interchangeability with equivalent-profile 8M belts from other mainstream international manufacturers.

Installation & Care

Inspect on receipt: surface clean, belt not twisted, teeth full and well formed.
Never bend or crimp — this damages the glass fiber tensile member.
Avoid scratches and chemicals; keep away from strong oxidising acids; limit long oil/water contact.
Release tension before removal. Never pry the belt off under high tension with improvised tools.
Check pulley alignment: pulleys must be parallel and coplanar.
Tension just enough to prevent tooth jump at maximum load — over-tension shortens bearing life.
Keep the drive clean; replace at first sign of tooth wear, cracking or cord exposure.

FAQ

What does 8M mean in a timing belt?

8M refers to the HTD profile with an 8.00 mm tooth pitch. In a part number like 640-8M-30, 640 is the pitch length in mm and 30 is the width in mm.

What is the difference between 8M and S8M?

Both have an 8 mm pitch. 8M uses an HTD curvilinear tooth, while S8M uses an STS/Super Torque Drive flat-top tooth. They require different pulleys and are not interchangeable.

What line speed can an 8M belt handle?

According to the material data, 8M belts allow a line speed up to 35 m/s, with transmission efficiency of 98% or more.

What temperature range can 8M belts work in?

Standard CR construction works from -30 °C to +90 °C.

Which widths are available for 8M belts?

Standard widths are 20, 25, 30, 50 and 85 mm. Custom cut-to-width is available.

Can I use an 8M belt on an HTD 8M pulley from another brand?

Yes, HTD 8M is a standard profile. As long as the pulley is a standard 8M curvilinear-profile pulley, the belt will mesh correctly.

Do you list individual 8M model numbers on the page?

No. All pitch lengths and widths are offered through the product options / trading variations. This page describes the 8M belt type, not a model list.

Is the 8M belt interchangeable with belts from other manufacturers?

Yes. All our 8M timing belts are manufactured to the ISO 13050 standard for metric-pitch curvilinear profile belts and are fully dimensionally interchangeable with equivalent-profile 8M timing belts from other mainstream international manufacturers.
