XL Synchronous Belt 4.2″-212.8″, 5.08mm 0.25″-0.75″ CR, ISO 5296 Supplier

Product Overview

The XL Synchronous Belt (also known as the XL Timing Belt) is an inch-pitch trapezoidal tooth synchronous belt with a 5.080 mm (0.200 inch) pitch. It transmits power through the meshing of belt teeth with pulley grooves rather than by friction, so the drive has no slip and no speed fluctuation.

The XL profile is the smallest commonly used member of the classic inch-pitch trapezoidal belt family. It sits above MXL (2.032 mm) for heavier loads and below L (9.525 mm) for compact installations. This makes it a practical choice for office equipment, home appliances and small industrial drives where reliable timing and quiet operation matter.

The belt requires no lubrication, has no slip and no pollution, and runs with low noise. Transmission efficiency reaches 98% or more, and the speed ratio range extends to 1:10 with a maximum linear speed of 40 m/s. Multi-shaft drives are supported.

The body is made of premium synthetic chloroprene rubber (CR) blended with rubber additives. The tensile member uses high-strength glass fiber cord, and the tooth surface is protected by specially treated Nylon 66 high-elastic fabric.

Materials & Construction

Every XL Synchronous Belt is built with a proven three-layer composite structure using premium, industry-grade materials for stable dimensions and long service life.

Layer	Material	Function
Tensile Member (Core)	high-strength glass fiber cord	Carries the full tensile load with very low elongation, keeping the pitch length stable under load.
Body Compound	Premium synthetic chloroprene rubber (CR) blended with multiple rubber additives	Bonds and protects the cord, transmits the load, and resists heat, cold, oil, water and chemicals.
Tooth Facing	Specially treated Nylon 66 high-elastic fabric	Protects the tooth surface from wear, lowers friction against the pulley groove, and keeps the tooth form accurate.

Model Designation

An XL belt is designated by its pitch line length code, followed by the letters XL for the profile. Taking 200XL as the example: 200 is the pitch line length code (20.0 inches) and XL is the profile (5.080 mm pitch). Pitch line length in millimetres equals the length in inches multiplied by 25.4. All XL timing belts are manufactured to the ISO 5296 standard for inch-pitch trapezoidal tooth profiles with a 5.080 mm pitch, a 1.27 mm tooth height and a 50 degree tooth angle, ensuring full dimensional interchangeability with equivalent-profile XL timing belts from other mainstream international manufacturers.

All XL timing belts are manufactured to the ISO 5296 standard for synchronous belt drives (XL profile), ensuring full dimensional interchangeability with equivalent-profile XL belts from other mainstream international manufacturers.

Applications

Office & Consumer Equipment: Printers, copiers, scanners, paper feed mechanisms, small appliances.
Light Industrial Machinery: Sewing machines, small conveyors, packaging equipment, small robotics, vending machines.
Precision Drives: Camera drives, 3D printers, linear motion systems, low-noise positioning equipment.

Installation & Maintenance

Inspect on receipt: Surface clean, belt not twisted, teeth full and well-formed.
Never bend or crimp: Bending damages the glass fiber tensile member.
Avoid chemicals: Do not let belt contact strong oxidizing acids; avoid prolonged oil or water exposure.
Reduce tension before removal: Never pry off under high tension or with unauthorised tools.
Check pulley alignment: Pulleys must be parallel and coplanar.
Tension correctly: Just enough to prevent tooth jumping under maximum load. Over-tensioning shortens bearing life.
Keep drive clean: Remove oil, dust and debris. Replace at first sign of tooth wear or cracking.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an XL timing belt?

The XL synchronous belt is an inch-pitch trapezoidal tooth belt with a 5.080 mm (0.200 in) pitch. It has a 50 degree tooth angle, a 1.27 mm tooth height and a 2.3 mm belt thickness, and transmits power by tooth meshing so there is no slip and no speed variation.

What is the difference between XL and L timing belts?

Both are inch-pitch trapezoidal belts, but the pitch is different. XL uses a 5.080 mm (0.200 in) pitch, while L uses a 9.525 mm (0.375 in) pitch. Because the tooth size and pitch differ, XL and L belts need different pulleys and are not interchangeable.

What is the difference between XL and MXL timing belts?

MXL is the smallest inch-pitch belt with a 2.032 mm (0.080 in) pitch, while XL uses a 5.080 mm (0.200 in) pitch. XL is therefore larger and can transmit more torque, but the two profiles use different pulleys.

How do I read an XL belt model number such as 200XL?

For XL belts, the number is the pitch line length code in tenths of an inch. So 200XL means a 20.0 inch (508.0 mm) pitch line length with the XL profile. To find the number of teeth, divide the length by the 0.200 inch pitch: 200 / 10 / 0.2 = 100 teeth.

What widths and lengths are available?

We stock 260 standard XL models from 42XL to 2128XL in widths of 025 (0.25 in), 031 (0.31 in), 037 (0.37 in), 050 (0.50 in) and 075 (0.75 in). Non-standard widths and custom lengths can be manufactured on request.

What materials and construction do XL belts use?

Every XL synchronous belt uses a three-layer composite construction: a high-strength glass fiber tensile cord, a chloroprene rubber (CR) body, and a specially treated Nylon 66 tooth facing for wear protection and low friction.

What applications are XL timing belts used for?

XL timing belts are used for light-duty precision drives such as printers, copiers and scanners, sewing machines, small conveyors, packaging equipment, vending machines, camera and 3D printer drives, juicers, dryers, bread makers, and linear motion positioning systems.

Are XL timing belts interchangeable with belts from other manufacturers?

Yes. Our XL timing belts are manufactured to the ISO 5296 standard for inch-pitch trapezoidal tooth profiles with a 5.080 mm pitch, a 1.27 mm tooth height and a 50 degree tooth angle, ensuring full dimensional interchangeability with equivalent-profile XL timing belts from other mainstream international manufacturers.
