What Is a B V-Belt

The most stocked classical section in plant maintenance — wider than A, lighter than C.

The B V-Belt is a classical wrapped V-belt with a 21/32 inch (about 17 mm) top width, an 11 mm section height and a 40° included angle. It is the section most maintenance teams keep on the shelf because it covers the middle of the power range: wider and higher-capacity than A section, but not as bulky as C. On a properly aligned drive it wedges into the sheave groove, grips harder as load rises, and transfers motor power to the driven machine with minimal slip.

Our B V-Belt uses the same construction as the rest of our natural-rubber classical range: a premium-grade natural rubber body, polyester tension cords and a wrapped fabric jacket. Moulded production keeps every belt of the same code to the same datum length, so a replacement ordered six months later sits in the same groove as the original set and shares load evenly in a matched drive.

Every belt conforms to ISO 4184. Datum length, cross-section and matched-set tolerance follow the international standard, not a private factory drawing. When your fitter reads “B100” on a worn belt, they can order “B100” from us and trust the seat.

Materials & Construction

Three layers, each doing one job. No filler, no shortcut.

🔧Tension Cord

High-tenacity polyester fibre, adhesive-treated and pre-tensioned during curing. Very low elongation under load, so the belt holds datum length and the drive stays tuned after break-in.

🏙Body Compound

High-strength natural rubber, fibre-reinforced. Absorbs shock loads from starting under full charge, resists compression cracking on working pulleys, and keeps its cross-section through continuous running.

📦Wrapped Jacket

Square-woven cotton-polyester fabric, rubber-impregnated, wrapped around the full belt. Raises sidewall friction, resists abrasion and dust, and meets anti-static requirements for industrial drives.

Why Buyers Choose This B V-Belt

Written for the person who buys the belt, not the catalogue writer.

1 Durable by Design

Natural rubber body with polyester cord and a wrapped jacket — built for continuous running, not just a first fit that glazes in a week.

2 ISO-Compliant, Batch After Batch

Moulded to datum length under ISO 4184 matched-set tolerance. A replacement ordered later drops into the existing set without re-machining the centre distance.

3 Wear-Proof in Continuous Run

In bench testing under rated load, measured flank wear stays below 2% after 1,000 hours of continuous running. On a line that runs two shifts, that is the difference between a planned changeout and an unplanned stoppage.

4 Stretch-Resistant Cord Line

Pre-tensioned polyester holds datum length. The belt does not go slack after break-in, so re-tensioning stays rare and bearing load stays where it should be.

5 Slip-Resistant Grip

The wrapped jacket bites into the B-groove. When load spikes at start-up, the belt stays seated instead of skating across the sheave and cooking itself.

6 Vibration-Dampening Transfer

Smooth power hand-off cuts resonance through the shaft and bearing housing — important on mixers, planers and paper frames where vibration travels into the foundation.

7 Heavy-Load Tolerant

Rated for medium-duty industrial transmission. Matched sets share load evenly, so no single belt rides tight and dies early.

8 Long-Lifespan Compound

High-tenacity natural rubber with anti-aging fillers. Shelf life is years when stored away from direct sun and ozone; service life is measured in seasons, not weeks.

9 Energy-Efficient Transfer

At 95%+ transmission efficiency, more motor output reaches the driven shaft. Over a 24/7 cycle that gap shows up on the power bill.

10 Low-Maintenance, Easy Field Swap

No lubrication, no tensioning every morning. A fitter can change a belt in minutes with a centre-distance adjustment and a tension gauge.

Industries & Equipment Served

B section is specified across building, mining, steel, paper, ceramics, petrochemical and agriculture — plus every auxiliary drive in between.

Building & Construction

Concrete mixers and road planers / milling machines. Continuous mixing duty and the shock of aggregate feeding make B section a standard fit on site equipment.

Mining & Aggregate

Sand makers, crushers, conveyors, screens, brick machines and auxiliary drives. Irregular feed and torque swings are exactly what the wrapped jacket and shock-tolerant natural rubber cushion are built for.

Steel & Metallurgy

Forging presses, grinders, planers, drills, saws, plate shears, forming machines, conveyors, feeders, continuous casters, cutting equipment and balers.

Paper Industry

Pulp machines, washers, refiners, disc mills, chippers and the full auxiliary line on a paper machine.

Ceramics Industry

Ball mills, grinding machines and vibrating screens — high torque, long cycles, abrasive dust in the air.

Petrochemical Industry

Oil pumps, extractors, dryers, industrial refrigeration units, mixers, pulverizers, extruders, pelletisers and blow moulders.

Agricultural Machinery

Rotavators, threshers, harvesters, irrigation pumps, grain augers and belt-driven implements. Outdoor UV, dust and shock loads are normal operating conditions, not exceptions.

HVAC & General Manufacturing

Air-handling unit fans, blowers, air compressors, water pumps, woodworking saws, lathes, packaging machines, printing presses and textile auxiliaries. If a B-groove sheave is on the machine, this is the belt.

Auxiliary Equipment Across All Sectors

Fans, electric motors, gear reducers, mixers, air compressors, pumps and pulverizers — the everyday drives that stop production the moment a belt lets go.

Reading the B-Code & Matched Sets

A B V-Belt code reads as B followed by the datum length in inches. So B100 has a datum length of 100 inches. This is not the inside length and not the outside circumference — our B section is marked by datum length per ISO 4184. The PDF chart below gives the conversion between datum, inside and outside lengths.

Because the belts are moulded to a consistent datum length, every belt in a multi-belt set carries the same share of load. A common failure pattern is one new belt paired with several worn belts: the new belt runs tight, takes almost all the tension and fails in days. Replacing the full set is always the lower-cost choice over the life of the drive.

The range in this SKU runs from B15 to B315, with 170+ listed variants. If you need a length outside the listed range, custom datum lengths are available — see the FAQ.

Installation & Maintenance

Correct Installation Procedure

Loosen the driven-machine foot bolts and close the centre distance before fitting the belt. Never pry a belt over a pulley rim — the forced bend breaks tension cords at one point and it fails later.
Seat the belt in the B-groove, then increase the centre distance gradually to apply tension.
Tension to the specified value with a proper tension gauge. Too tight overloads bearings; too loose causes slip, heat and rapid wear.
Run the drive 20–30 minutes under light load so the belt beds into the grooves, then re-check and adjust tension once.
Check pulley alignment with a straightedge. On a pulley of any size, 1 mm misalignment becomes visible wear in a week.

Maintenance Guidelines

Inspect belts every 500 operating hours for glazing, cracking or exposed cords.
Keep pulleys clean — packed dust acts like grinding paste on the sidewalls.
Replace all belts in a matched set together — never replace one belt alone.
Store spares off the floor, away from direct sunlight, welders and motor ozone.

Troubleshooting Guide

The belt cannot be tensioned

Possible causes: centre-distance adjustment range too small; belt stretched beyond recovery; drive frame undersized or overloaded; wrong belt length.
Remedies: re-design with a larger adjustment range; re-calculate the drive and resize; select the correct B-section datum length.

The belt wears out too quickly

Possible causes: belt past service life and compound aged; drive imposes excessive tension; poor installation causes misalignment or vibration.
Remedies: replace on a fixed schedule; correct the drive design; align and seat the belt properly at installation.

The belt breaks after a short time

Possible causes: pried onto the pulley and cords damaged; foreign object entered the drive; driven system seized; severe shock load.
Remedies: fit with centre distance closed, no forced leverage; fit a guard; clear the fault before restarting; re-design for the actual shock load.

The belt slips

Possible causes: insufficient tension, worn or contaminated groove, wrong drive ratio.
Remedies: tension to spec with a gauge; replace worn grooves; correct the drive ratio.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum order quantity for B V-Belts?

Our standard MOQ is 100 pieces per size. Mixed-length orders across a production line, recurring supply contracts or bonded warehouse programmes can be arranged with our sales team for volume pricing and a flexible MOQ.

What is the delivery lead time?

Standard delivery is 15–20 days from order confirmation, depending on order volume and current production scheduling. Breakdown replacements can be prioritised on request.

Do you support custom belt lengths?

Yes. We supply custom datum lengths outside the B15–B315 range, and we also manufacture banded V-belts for long-centre drives where individual belts can turnover or whip. Provide the required dimension and application; custom items may carry a longer lead time and a minimum quantity.

How do I read the B V-Belt code?

The number after B is the datum length in inches. B100 has a 100-inch datum length. It is not the inside length and not the outside circumference — see the conversion chart in the downloadable PDF.

What material is the B V-Belt made from?

Natural rubber body, polyester tension cord and a wrapped fabric outer jacket. High strength, low elongation, wear-resistant, long fatigue life, minimal maintenance, consistent dimensions.

Is the B V-Belt oil and heat resistant?

No — and this matters. B section uses natural rubber, which is not oil-resistant. If your drive sees oil splash, chemical contact or sustained high ambient heat, our neoprene range (3V/5V/8V/SPZ/SPB/SPC) is the correct choice. Ask our team for a cross-reference.

Is the B V-Belt manufactured to ISO 4184?

Yes. All our B section wrapped V-belts are manufactured to ISO 4184, covering dimensional tolerances, length consistency and matched-set performance.

Can I replace just one belt in a multi-belt drive?

We recommend replacing the full matched set. A single new belt runs tighter than the worn belts beside it, takes most of the load and fails early. Replacing all belts is cheaper over the drive’s life.

Which machines use B section belts?

HVAC air handlers, pumps, compressors, blowers, conveyors, concrete mixers, road planers, crushers, paper machines, ceramic ball mills, petrochemical drives, tractors and harvesters.

Do you provide technical support for drive design?

Yes. Send centre distance, both pulley diameters and the service factor. Our engineering team returns a recommended belt code, normally within one working day.

How do I identify my current B belt?

The code is printed or embossed on the belt back, e.g. B100 for a 100-inch datum length. If the marking has worn away, measure top width (about 21/32″ / 17 mm) and datum length and send both figures to us — we will identify the replacement.

Ready to Specify Your B V-Belts?
