T5 Timing Belt 135-4800mm, 5mm 6-50mm CR, ISO 17396 Light Automation Supplier

Product Overview

The T5 Synchronous Belt is a metric trapezoidal-tooth timing belt with a 5 mm pitch, designed for high-precision light to medium-duty power transmission. Unlike V-belts that rely on friction, T5 belts transmit power through positive meshing between belt teeth and pulley grooves, delivering zero slippage, a constant velocity ratio, and no need for lubrication.

T5 belts are the standard choice for applications demanding accurate positioning, low noise, and clean operation, including 3D printers, linear actuators, office automation equipment, medical devices, robotics, and light industrial conveyors. The metric pitch system (5 mm) makes T5 belts fully compatible with European and Asian machinery standards.

T5 belts support maximum linear speeds of up to 40 m/s and can be used in multi-shaft drive configurations. Transmission efficiency reaches 98% or higher, and the maximum speed ratio can reach 1:10.

Materials & Construction

T5 synchronous belts feature a three-layer construction engineered for durability, flexibility, and dimensional stability:

Layer	Material	Function
Belt Body	High-quality synthetic chloroprene rubber (CR) , with specialized rubber additives	Provides heat resistance, cold resistance, oil resistance, water resistance, and acid/alkali resistance; ensures excellent dynamic flex performance and crack resistance.
Tensile Cords	High-strength fiberglass cords	Maintains belt length under load, prevents elongation, delivers high tensile strength and low stretch for accurate positioning.
Tooth Surface	Specially treated nylon 66 high-elasticity fabric	Protects tooth surfaces from wear, reduces friction and noise, improves meshing smoothness, and extends service life.

The material combination delivers excellent ozone resistance, aging resistance, heat resistance, and abrasion resistance, making T5 belts suitable for long-term continuous operation in demanding industrial environments.

Installation & Maintenance

Inspect on receipt: Verify the belt surface is clean and undamaged, teeth are fully formed, and the belt is not twisted before installation.
Never bend sharply: Do not bend below the minimum recommended pulley diameter, as this can fracture the internal fiberglass tensile cords.
Avoid damage and contamination: Do not scratch or cut the belt surface. Keep away from strong oxidizing acids and avoid prolonged contact with oil and water.
Release tension before replacement: Fully release the tension adjuster before removing the old belt. Never pry the belt off pulleys under high tension.
Check pulley alignment: Misaligned pulleys cause uneven tooth wear, edge fraying, and premature failure. Ensure pulleys are parallel and coplanar.
Proper tensioning: Tension just enough to prevent tooth jumping under maximum load. Over-tensioning increases bearing loads and shortens belt life.

Important: Do not crimp or kink T5 belts at any time. Minimum bend radius must be respected to avoid irreversible damage to fiberglass cords.

Tooth Profile Comparison

T5 belongs to the T-series metric trapezoidal tooth synchronous belt family. For reference, the table below compares common T-series profiles:

Profile	Pitch	Tooth Height	Belt Thickness	Typical Application
T2.5	2.5 mm	0.7 mm	1.3 mm	Ultra-light precision instruments, small electronics
T5	5.0 mm	1.2 mm	2.2 mm	3D printers, office equipment, light automation
T10	10.0 mm	2.5 mm	4.5 mm	Medium-duty industrial drives, machine tools
T20	20.0 mm	5.0 mm	8.0 mm	Heavy-duty industrial power transmission

For applications requiring higher power capacity or higher speed with less backlash, consider HTD curvilinear tooth profiles (3M, 5M, 8M, 14M, 20M). For very high precision zero-backlash applications, polyurethane T5 belts with steel cord reinforcement are also available.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a T5 timing belt?

The T5 timing belt is a metric-pitch trapezoidal-tooth synchronous belt with a 5.0 mm tooth pitch, a 1.2 mm tooth height, a 2.2 mm belt thickness and a 40 degree tooth angle. It is designed for compact, high-precision light-duty drives where accurate positioning, quiet running and zero slip are essential.

What is the difference between T5 and S5M timing belts?

Both use a 5 mm pitch, but they use different tooth profiles. T5 is a metric trapezoidal (T) profile with a 1.2 mm tooth height and a 40 degree pressure angle, while S5M is a modified curvilinear (STD/STS) profile with a 1.91 mm tooth height. Their tooth geometry and pulleys differ, so a T5 belt and an S5M belt are not interchangeable.

What is the difference between T5 and XL timing belts?

Both have a 5 mm pitch, but they use different standards. T5 is a metric trapezoidal profile (5.0 mm pitch) under ISO 17396, while XL is an inch-pitch trapezoidal profile (0.200 inch / 5.080 mm pitch) under ISO 5296. The pitch differs by 0.080 mm and the tooth shapes are not identical, so T5 and XL belts must run on their matching pulleys.

How do I read a T5 belt model number such as 300-T5-10?

The designation is pitch length – profile – width. So 300-T5-10 means a 300 mm pitch line length, a T5 profile with a 5 mm trapezoidal pitch, and a 10 mm belt width. To find the number of teeth, divide the pitch length by the pitch: 300 / 5 = 60 teeth.

What widths and lengths are available?

We stock 213 standard T5 models from 135-T5 to 4800-T5 in seven widths: 6 mm, 10 mm, 15 mm, 20 mm, 25 mm, 32 mm and 50 mm. Non-standard lengths, custom widths and polyurethane steel-cord belts are available on request.

What materials and construction do T5 belts use?

Every T5 belt uses a three-layer composite construction: a high-strength glass fiber tensile cord, a chloroprene rubber (CR) body, and a specially treated nylon 66 tooth facing for wear protection and low friction. Polyurethane belts with steel cord are available for very high-precision, zero-backlash applications.

What applications are T5 timing belts used for?

T5 timing belts are used for compact, high-precision light-duty drives such as FDM 3D printers, medical equipment, laboratory instruments, automatic curtains and roller blinds, office printers and scanners, small robotics, linear actuators, vending machines, POS terminals, and replacement drives on existing T5 pulley installations.

Are T5 timing belts interchangeable with belts from other manufacturers?

Yes. Our T5 timing belts are manufactured to the ISO 17396 standard for metric-pitch trapezoidal tooth profiles and are fully dimensionally interchangeable with equivalent-profile T5 timing belts from other mainstream international manufacturers.
