What Is a D Section V-Belt

The section specified when a C-belt has reached its limit and the rock still has to move.

The D Section V-Belt is a classical wrapped V-belt with a 32 mm (1-1/4 inch) top width, a 19 mm section height and a 40° included angle. It is the belt called for on crushers, sand makers, winch grinders, screening machines, conveyors, brick machines and rock drills — equipment where the feed is irregular, the load swings hard and a missed shift costs real money. This is not a fractional-horsepower belt and it is not a narrow wedge belt; it is the classical section that carries serious torque through a wrapped jacket.

Our D Section v-belts are built on a premium-grade natural rubber compound, reinforced with polyester tension cords and finished with a square-woven wrapped fabric jacket. Natural rubber gives the belt the flexibility to wrap a working pulley without compression cracking, while the polyester cords hold datum length under load so the drive does not drift out of tension after the first week. Because we use moulded production, every belt of the same code leaves the line to the same length tolerance — a replacement ordered a year later seats in the same groove as the original set.

Every belt conforms to ISO 4184. Datum length, cross-section and matched-set tolerance are measurable against the international standard rather than a factory’s private drawing. When your maintenance team reads “D200” on a worn belt, they can order “D200” from us and trust it will fit.

Materials & Construction

Three layers, each doing one job. No filler, no shortcut.

🔧Tension Cord

High-tenacity polyester fibre, adhesive-treated and pre-tensioned during curing. Very low elongation under load, so the belt keeps its datum length and the drive stays tuned.

🏙Body Compound

High-strength natural rubber, fibre-reinforced. Absorbs the shock of a tramp-iron hit or a blocked crusher jaw, resists compression cracking on working pulleys, and holds its cross-section through continuous running.

📦Wrapped Jacket

Square-woven cotton-polyester fabric, rubber-impregnated, wrapped around the full belt. Raises sidewall friction, shrugs off silica dust and rock chips, and meets anti-static requirements for industrial drives.

Top Advantages Explained

Written for the person who buys the belt, not the person who writes the catalogue.

1 Premium-Grade Construction

Natural rubber body, polyester cord and a wrapped jacket working as one unit — not three layers that drift apart under shock load.

2 Heavy-Duty by Design

The 32 mm cross-section carries the torque that C-section belts hand off when the drive grows. Built for continuous crushing, not intermittent duty.

3 Wear-Proof in Harsh Dust

In bench testing under rated load, measured flank wear stays below 2% after 1,000 hours of continuous running. In silica-laden quarry air that margin is the difference between a scheduled changeout and a line stopped cold.

4 Stretch-Resistant Cord Line

Pre-tensioned polyester holds datum length. The belt does not go slack after break-in, so re-tensioning stays rare and bearing load stays where it should be.

5 Shock-Tolerant Build

Natural rubber cushion absorbs the hammer of a blocked jaw or a rock hitting the feed chute. Cords stay intact through millions of flex cycles.

6 Slip-Resistant Grip

The wrapped jacket bites into the groove. When the load spikes on start-up, the belt stays seated instead of skating across the sheave and cooking itself.

7 Vibration-Dampening Drive

Smooth power transfer cuts resonance through the shaft and bearing housing — important on a screen or crusher where vibration travels into the frame.

8 Heavy-Load Tolerant

Rated for super-heavy-duty mechanical transmission. Matched sets share load evenly, so no single belt rides tight and dies early.

9 Long-Lifespan Compound

High-tenacity natural rubber with anti-aging fillers. Shelf life is years when stored away from direct sun and ozone; service life is measured in seasons, not weeks.

10 Energy-Efficient Transfer

At 95%+ transmission efficiency, more motor output reaches the crusher shaft. Over a continuous 24/7 cycle that gap shows up on the power bill.

Mining Crushers & Sand Making

D section is the belt the source document lists for the mining industry. Every machine below is named in that listing.

Crushers & Sand Makers

Jaw crushers, cone crushers, impact crushers and vertical-shaft sand making machines. D section is listed for the crushing stage in the source document. Feed is irregular, torque swings and tramp material arrives without warning — the wrapped jacket and shock-tolerant natural-rubber cushion are built for exactly this.

Winch Grinders & Screening Machines

Winch grinders and vibrating screens. The wrapped jacket shrugs off rock chips and silica dust, while the polyester cord holds tension so the screen keeps its stroke instead of wandering.

Conveyors & Brick Machines

Belt conveyors carrying crushed product, and brick machines in aggregate block plants. Continuous duty, steady torque — the conditions where a 2% wear rate over 1,000 hours pays back the purchase price.

Rock Drills & Mining Auxiliary Equipment

Rock drills and the full range of auxiliary equipment that supports a quarry: fans, electric motors, gear reducers, mixers, air compressors, pumps and pulverizers. If the machine turns reliably in a quarry, the D Section V-Belt is on the bill of materials.

Reading the D-Code & Matched Sets

A D Section code reads as D followed by the datum length in inches. The number is the datum length, not the outside circumference; the PDF chart below gives the conversion. So D200 has a datum length of 200 inches.

Because the belts are moulded to a consistent datum length, every belt in a multi-belt set carries the same share of load. A common failure pattern is one new belt paired with several worn belts: the new belt runs tight, takes almost all the tension and fails in days. On a crusher that runs two or three shifts, that mistake becomes a breakdown. Replacing the full set is always the lower-cost choice over the life of the drive.

The range runs from D110 to D700 in 263 standard datum lengths. If you need a length outside the standard list, custom lengths are available — see the FAQ below.

If you are unsure of the correct code, send us the centre distance, both pulley diameters and the service factor you want to apply. Our engineering team will return a recommended belt code, normally within one working day. MOQ: 20 pcs per size | Delivery: 15-20 days

Installation & Maintenance

Correct Installation Procedure

Loosen the driven-machine foot bolts and close the centre distance before fitting the belt. Never pry a belt over a pulley rim — the forced bend breaks tension cords at one point along the belt and it fails later, not now.
Seat the belt in the grooves, then increase the centre distance gradually to apply tension.
Tension to the specified value with a proper tension gauge. Too tight overloads the bearings; too loose causes slip, heat and rapid wear. A thumb-test is not a specification.
Run the drive 20–30 minutes under light load so the belt beds into the grooves, then re-check and adjust tension once.
Check pulley alignment with a straightedge. On a large pulley, 1 mm misalignment becomes visible wear in a week.

Maintenance Guidelines

Inspect belts every 500 operating hours for glazing, cracking or exposed cords.
Keep pulleys clean — packed rock dust acts like grinding paste on the sidewalls.
Replace all belts in a matched set together — never replace one belt alone.
Store spares off the floor, away from direct sunlight, welders and motor ozone.

Troubleshooting Guide

The belt cannot be tensioned

Possible causes: the centre-distance adjustment range is too small; the belt has stretched beyond recovery or the drive frame is undersized and overloaded; the belt length is wrong.
Remedies: re-design the drive with a larger adjustment range; re-calculate the drive data and resize the drive; select the correct D Section length.

The belt wears out too quickly

Possible causes: the belt has exceeded its service life and the compound has aged; the drive imposes excessive tension; poor installation causes misalignment, uneven wear or vibration.
Remedies: replace on a fixed schedule, correct the drive design, and align and seat the belt properly at installation.

The belt breaks after a short time

Possible causes: it was pried onto the pulley and cords were damaged; a foreign object entered the drive and snapped it; the driven system seized; severe shock loading or a load applied too suddenly.
Remedies: loosen the mounting bolts and reduce centre distance to fit the belt with no forced leverage; fit a guard to keep debris out; stop and clear the fault before restarting; re-design for the actual shock load and ramp loads up gradually.

Black powder is coming off the belt

Cause: on a new installation the pulley surface finish is too rough, so the belt rubs off fine black rubber dust.
Remedy: improve the pulley surface finish.

The belt slips

Possible causes: insufficient tension, worn or contaminated pulley grooves, or a drive ratio that no longer matches the requirement.
Remedies: adjust tension to the specified value with a tension gauge; inspect and replace worn or contaminated grooves; correct or replace the drive so the ratio matches.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum order quantity for D Section v-belts?

Our standard MOQ is 20 pieces per size. For mixed-length orders across a crusher line, recurring supply contracts or bonded warehouse programmes, contact our sales team for volume pricing and a flexible MOQ.

What is the delivery lead time?

Standard delivery is 15–20 days from order confirmation, depending on order volume and current production scheduling. Rush orders for breakdown replacements can be accommodated on request.

Do you support custom belt lengths?

Yes. We supply custom datum lengths outside the D110–D700 range, and we also manufacture banded V-belts for drives where individual belts can turnover or whip — particularly useful on long-centre conveyor drives. Provide the required dimension, section and application. Custom items may carry a longer lead time and a minimum quantity.

How do I read the D Section v-belt code?

The number after D is the datum length in inches. So D200 has a datum length of 200 inches. It is not the outside circumference — see the conversion chart in the downloadable PDF.

What material is the D Section v-belt made from?

The D Section body is natural rubber (NR) with a polyester tension cord and a wrapped fabric outer jacket. This gives the belt high strength, low elongation, wear resistance, long fatigue life, minimal maintenance and consistent dimensions.

Is the D Section v-belt ISO certified?

Yes. All our D Section wrapped V-belts are manufactured to ISO 4184, covering dimensional tolerances, length consistency and matched-set performance.

Can I replace just one belt in a multi-belt drive?

We recommend replacing the full matched set. A single new belt runs tighter than the worn belts beside it, takes most of the load and fails early. Replacing all belts is cheaper over the drive’s life.

Which mining machines use the D Section v-belt?

D Section is specified for crushers, sand makers, winch grinders, screening machines, conveyors, brick machines and rock drills, plus the full auxiliary equipment line — fans, motors, reducers, mixers, compressors, pumps and pulverizers.

Do you provide technical support for drive design?

Yes. Our engineering team provides free support for drive calculation, belt selection and tensioning. Send centre distance, pulley diameters and service factor and we respond within one working day.

How do I identify my current D Section belt?

The code is printed or embossed on the belt back, for example D200 for a 200-inch datum length. If the marking has worn away, measure the top width (about 32 mm) and datum length and send both figures to us — we will identify the correct replacement.

Ready to Specify Your D Section Belts?
