What Is a C Section Belt

The workhorse classical section — broad enough for serious industrial loads, available in more lengths than any other section we build.

The C Section Belt is a classical wrapped V-belt with a 7/8 inch (22 mm) top width, a 14 mm section height and a 40° included angle. It sits above the B section in power capacity and is the belt most often specified when a drive moves from light industrial duty into continuous production. Across our range, C section is the most broadly applicable — named in eight separate industry listings in the source document, from mining and construction to agriculture, steel, textiles, paper, ceramics and petrochemicals.

Our C Section belts are built on a premium-grade natural rubber compound, reinforced with polyester tension cords and finished with a square-woven wrapped fabric jacket. Natural rubber gives the belt the flexibility to wrap a working pulley without compression cracking, while the polyester cords hold datum length under load so the drive does not drift out of tension after the first week. Because we use moulded production, every belt of the same code leaves the line to the same length tolerance — a replacement ordered a year later seats in the same groove as the original set.

Every belt conforms to ISO 4184. Datum length, cross-section and matched-set tolerance are measurable against the international standard rather than a factory’s private drawing. When your maintenance team reads “C200” on a worn belt, they can order “C200” from us and trust it will fit.

Materials & Construction

Three layers, each doing one job. No filler, no shortcut.

🔧Tension Cord

High-tenacity polyester fibre, adhesive-treated and pre-tensioned during curing. Very low elongation under load, so the belt keeps its datum length and the drive stays tuned.

🏙Body Compound

High-strength natural rubber, fibre-reinforced. Absorbs shock loads from starting under full charge, resists compression cracking on working pulleys, and holds its cross-section through continuous running.

📦Wrapped Jacket

Square-woven cotton-polyester fabric, rubber-impregnated, wrapped around the full belt. Raises sidewall friction, resists abrasion, dust and mild atmospheric contamination, and meets anti-static requirements for industrial drives.

Material boundary worth knowing: C section uses natural rubber (NR). Our chloroprene range — 3V, 5V, 8V, SPZ, SPB and SPC — carries oil, heat, cold, aging, acid and alkali resistance. If your application involves oil splash, chemical contact, high ambient heat or sustained sub-zero temperature, ask us about the chloroprene range instead. A dedicated answer sits in the FAQ below.

Top Advantages Explained

Written for the person who buys the C section belt, not the person who writes the catalogue.

1 Premium-Grade Construction

Natural rubber body, polyester cord and a wrapped jacket working as one unit — not three layers that drift apart under shock load.

2 ISO-Compliant, Batch After Batch

Moulded to length under ISO 4184 matching-set tolerance. A replacement ordered months later drops into the existing set without re-machining the centre distance.

3 Wear-Proof in Continuous Run

In bench testing under rated load, measured flank wear stays below 2% after 1,000 hours of continuous running. On a line that runs two or three shifts, that is the difference between a scheduled changeout and a stoppage.

4 Stretch-Resistant Cord Line

Pre-tensioned polyester holds datum length. The belt does not go slack after break-in, so re-tensioning stays rare and bearing load stays where it should be.

5 Shock-Tolerant Build

Natural rubber cushion absorbs the hammer of a loaded crusher jaw, a construction mixer starting under full batch or an agricultural implement hitting a clod. Cords stay intact through millions of flex cycles.

6 Slip-Resistant Grip

The wrapped jacket bites into the groove. When the load spikes on start-up, the belt stays seated instead of skating across the sheave and cooking itself.

7 Vibration-Dampening Drive

Smooth power transfer cuts resonance through the shaft and bearing housing — important on a textile frame or a paper machine where vibration travels into the foundation.

8 Heavy-Load Tolerant

Rated for heavy-duty mechanical transmission. Matched sets share load evenly, so no single C section belt rides tight and dies early.

9 Long-Lifespan Compound

High-tenacity natural rubber with anti-aging fillers. Shelf life is years when stored away from direct sun and ozone; service life is measured in seasons, not weeks.

10 Energy-Efficient Transfer

At 95%+ transmission efficiency, more motor output reaches the driven shaft. Over a continuous 24/7 cycle that gap shows up on the power bill.

Industries & Equipment Served

C section is the broadest classical section in the source document, named across eight industry listings. Every machine below is listed against C section.

Mining Industry

Crushers, sand makers, winch grinders, screening machines, conveyors, brick machines, rock drills and extensive auxiliary equipment. Feed is irregular and torque swings hard — the wrapped jacket and shock-tolerant natural rubber cushion are built for exactly this.

Construction Industry

Concrete mixers and road milling machines. Continuous mixing duty and the shock of aggregate feeding make C section a standard fit on site equipment.

Agricultural Machinery

Planters, rotary tillers, mowers, rice mills, mini-tillers, fertiliser spreaders, rice hullers, grain grading screens, cleaning screens, ditch diggers and pruning machines. C section handles the varying shock loads of field implements across long seasons.

Steel & Metallurgy

Forging presses, grinding machines, planers, drilling machines, sawing machines, plate shears, forming machines, conveyors, crushers, mixers, distributors, belt conveyors, magnetic separators, feeding systems, feeders, continuous casters, cutting equipment, balers and inkjet markers.

Textile Industry

Auxiliary equipment throughout textile production lines. Smooth, vibration-dampening transfer protects sensitive downstream processes.

Paper Industry

Pulp machines, washing machines, bleaching washers, pulpers, separators, deflakers, flotation cells, beaters, refiners, disc mills, washers, straw cutters, reed cutters and chippers.

Ceramics Industry

Ball mills, grinding machines, vibrating screens and extensive auxiliary equipment. High torque, long cycles, abrasive dust in the air.

Petrochemical Industry

Oil pumps, oil extractors, dryers, industrial refrigeration units, industrial dehumidifiers, mixers, pulverizers, vacuum formers, blow moulders, extruders, forming machines and pelletisers.

Auxiliary Equipment Across All Sectors

Fans, electric motors, gear reducers, mixers, air compressors, pumps and pulverizers — if the frame is large and the load runs continuously, C section is on the bill of materials.

Reading the C-Code & Matched Sets

A C Section code reads as C followed by the datum length in inches. The number is the datum length, not the outside circumference; the PDF chart below gives the conversion. So C200 has a datum length of 200 inches.

Because the belts are moulded to a consistent datum length, every belt in a multi-belt set carries the same share of load. A common failure pattern is one new belt paired with several worn belts: the new belt runs tight, takes almost all the tension and fails in days. Replacing the full set is always the lower-cost choice over the life of the drive.

The range runs from C50 to C450 in 401 standard datum lengths. If you need a length outside the standard list, custom lengths are available — see the FAQ below.

If you are unsure of the correct code, send us the centre distance, both pulley diameters and the service factor you want to apply. Our engineering team will return a recommended belt code, normally within one working day. MOQ: 20 pcs per size | Delivery: 15-20 days

Installation & Maintenance

Correct Installation Procedure

Loosen the driven-machine foot bolts and close the centre distance before fitting the belt. Never pry a belt over a pulley rim — the forced bend breaks tension cords at one point along the belt and it fails later, not now.
Seat the belt in the grooves, then increase the centre distance gradually to apply tension.
Tension to the specified value with a proper tension gauge. Too tight overloads the bearings; too loose causes slip, heat and rapid wear. A thumb-test is not a specification.
Run the drive 20–30 minutes under light load so the belt beds into the grooves, then re-check and adjust tension once.
Check pulley alignment with a straightedge. On a large pulley, 1 mm misalignment becomes visible wear in a week.

Maintenance Guidelines

Inspect belts every 500 operating hours for glazing, cracking or exposed cords.
Keep pulleys clean — packed dust acts like grinding paste on the sidewalls.
Replace all belts in a matched set together — never replace one belt alone.
Store spares off the floor, away from direct sunlight, welders and motor ozone.

Troubleshooting Guide

The belt cannot be tensioned

Possible causes: the centre-distance adjustment range is too small; the belt has stretched beyond recovery or the drive frame is undersized and overloaded; the belt length is wrong.
Remedies: re-design the drive with a larger adjustment range; re-calculate the drive data and resize the drive; select the correct C Section length.

The belt wears out too quickly

Possible causes: the belt has exceeded its service life and the compound has aged; the drive imposes excessive tension; poor installation causes misalignment, uneven wear or vibration.
Remedies: replace on a fixed schedule, correct the drive design, and align and seat the belt properly at installation.

The belt breaks after a short time

Possible causes: it was pried onto the pulley and cords were damaged; a foreign object entered the drive and snapped it; the driven system seized; severe shock loading or a load applied too suddenly.
Remedies: loosen the mounting bolts and reduce centre distance to fit the belt with no forced leverage; fit a guard to keep debris out; stop and clear the fault before restarting; re-design for the actual shock load and ramp loads up gradually.

Black powder is coming off the belt

Cause: on a new installation the pulley surface finish is too rough, so the belt rubs off fine black rubber dust.
Remedy: improve the pulley surface finish.

The belt slips

Possible causes: insufficient tension, worn or contaminated pulley grooves, or a drive ratio that no longer matches the requirement.
Remedies: adjust tension to the specified value with a tension gauge; inspect and replace worn or contaminated grooves; correct or replace the drive so the ratio matches.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum order quantity for C Section belts?

Our standard MOQ is 20 pieces per size. For mixed-length orders across a production line, recurring supply contracts or bonded warehouse programmes, contact our sales team for volume pricing and a flexible MOQ.

What is the delivery lead time?

Standard delivery is 15–20 days from order confirmation, depending on order volume and current production scheduling. Rush orders for breakdown replacements can be accommodated on request.

Do you support custom belt lengths?

Yes. We supply custom datum lengths outside the C50–C450 range, and we also manufacture banded V-belts for drives where individual belts can turnover or whip — particularly useful on long-centre conveyor drives. Provide the required dimension, section and application. Custom items may carry a longer lead time and a minimum quantity.

How do I read the C Section belt code?

The number after C is the datum length in inches. So C200 has a datum length of 200 inches. It is not the outside circumference — see the conversion chart in the downloadable PDF.

What material is the C Section belt made from?

The C Section body is natural rubber (NR) with a polyester tension cord and a wrapped fabric outer jacket. This gives the belt high strength, low elongation, wear resistance, long fatigue life, minimal maintenance and consistent dimensions.

Is the C Section belt oil and heat resistant?

No — and this is an important distinction. C Section uses natural rubber, which is not oil-resistant. If your drive sees oil splash, chemical contact, sustained high ambient heat or sub-zero temperature, our chloroprene range (3V/5V/8V/SPZ/SPB/SPC) carries oil, heat, cold, aging, acid and alkali resistance. Please ask our team for a recommendation.

Is the C Section belt built to ISO 4184?

Yes. All our C Section wrapped V-belts are manufactured to ISO 4184, covering dimensional tolerances, length consistency and matched-set performance.

Can I replace just one belt in a multi-belt drive?

We recommend replacing the full matched set. A single new belt runs tighter than the worn belts beside it, takes most of the load and fails early. Replacing all belts is cheaper over the drive’s life.

Which industries use the C Section belt?

C Section is the broadest classical section we offer: mining, construction, agriculture, steel and metallurgy, textiles, paper, ceramics and petrochemicals, plus the full range of auxiliary equipment.

Do you provide technical support for drive design?

Yes. Our engineering team provides free support for drive calculation, belt selection and tensioning. Send centre distance, pulley diameters and service factor and we respond within one working day.

How do I identify my current C Section belt?

The code is printed or embossed on the belt back, for example C200 for a 200-inch datum length. If the marking has worn away, measure the top width (about 22 mm / 7/8 inch) and datum length and send both figures to us — we will identify the correct replacement.

Ready to Specify Your C Section Belts?

Send the belt code, quantity and required delivery date. We will confirm stock, issue a formal quote and ship within 15–20 days.
