Description
What Is a 5M Timing Belt
The 5M timing belt is the 5.00 mm pitch member of the HTD (High Torque Drive) curvilinear synchronous belt family. It transmits power by tooth engagement with the pulley, so there is no slip, no speed drift and no need for lubrication.
5M is smaller than 8M/14M but larger than 3M/S3M, making it ideal for compact machines that still need precise timing. Transmission efficiency reaches 98% or more, the speed ratio extends to 1:10, and the allowed line speed reaches 40 m/s.
Technical Specifications
MOQ: 50 pcs, standard widths: 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 mm. Other widths available on request. All 5M timing belts are manufactured in accordance with the ISO 13050 standard for metric-pitch curvilinear (HTD) profile systems, ensuring full dimensional interchangeability with equivalent-profile 5M timing belts from other mainstream international manufacturers.
Materials & Construction
LAYER 01 Tensile Member
Imported high-strength glass fiber cord. Very low elongation, stable pitch length under load.
LAYER 02 Body Compound
Chloroprene rubber (CR) body with special HNBR compounds available for high-oil or high-temperature applications. Heat, cold, oil, water and chemical resistance.
LAYER 03 Tooth Facing
Specially treated Nylon 66 elastic fabric. Low friction, high wear resistance, protects the curvilinear tooth form.
Why Choose 5M HTD
Zero Slip
Tooth meshing keeps constant speed ratio under varying loads.
Quiet Operation
Curvilinear 5 mm teeth run smoother than trapezoidal belts.
Maintenance-Free
No lubrication, no contamination, minimal upkeep.
98%+ Efficiency
Almost no power lost to slip or creep.
Compact & Light
Small pulley diameters save space in appliances and office machines.
Good Chemical Resistance
CR body resists oil, water, acids and alkalis in normal service.
Long Flex Life
Good dynamic flex, ozone and aging resistance from chloroprene compound.
Multi-Shaft Drives
Suitable for synchronized multi-pulley layouts.
Applications
- Home appliances: vacuum cleaners, washing machines, robot vacuums, garage doors.
- Office & commercial: printers, copiers, ticket machines, vending machines, sewing machines.
- Automation: small conveyors, pick-and-place heads, labeling machines, packaging equipment.
- CNC & 3D: auxiliary axes, filament feeders, spindle drives on desktop machines.
- Medical & lab: centrifuges, scanners, diagnostic stages.
- Replacement drives: manufactured to ISO 13050 standard, interchangeable with equivalent-profile 5M timing belts from other mainstream manufacturers.

How to Select Width & Length
On a 5M drive, width sets the load capacity. Pick the narrowest width that handles peak torque, then match pitch length to your center distance.
- 10 mm – very light office/appliance drives
- 15 mm – printers, small automation, light conveyors
- 20 mm – packaging machines, CNC auxiliaries
- 25 mm – heavier small-industrial drives

All 5M timing belts are manufactured to the ISO 13050 standard for synchronous belt drives (5M profile), ensuring full dimensional interchangeability with equivalent-profile 5M timing belts from other mainstream international manufacturers.
Installation & Care
- Inspect on receipt: surface clean, belt not twisted, teeth full and well formed.
- Never bend or crimp — this damages the glass fiber tensile member.
- Avoid scratches and chemicals; keep away from strong oxidising acids; limit long oil/water contact.
- Release tension before removal. Never pry the belt off under high tension with improvised tools.
- Check pulley alignment: pulleys must be parallel and coplanar.
- Tension just enough to prevent tooth jump at maximum load.
- Keep the drive clean; replace at first sign of tooth wear, cracking or cord exposure.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does 5M mean in a timing belt?
5M is the HTD (curvilinear-tooth) profile with a 5.00 mm tooth pitch. In a code such as 450-5M-15, 450 is the pitch line length in millimetres and 15 is the belt width in millimetres.
Is 5M the same as S5M?
No. Both use a 5 mm pitch, but 5M is an HTD curvilinear profile while S5M is an STS/Super Torque Drive profile with a flatter tooth top. They require different pulleys and are not interchangeable.
What line speed can a 5M timing belt handle?
According to standard material data, HTD 5M timing belts allow a line speed up to 40 m/s with a transmission efficiency of 98% or more.
What temperature range can 5M timing belts handle?
Standard chloroprene-rubber 5M timing belts operate reliably from -30 °C to +90 °C. Special HNBR compounds are available on request for higher-temperature or oil-immersed applications.
Which widths are available for 5M timing belts?
Standard stock widths are 10 mm, 15 mm, 20 mm and 25 mm. Other widths can be manufactured on request.
Can I use a 5M timing belt on any 5 mm pulley?
Only on HTD 5M pulleys. S5M and other 5 mm profiles have different tooth geometry and require matched pulleys.
Are your 5M timing belts interchangeable with belts from other manufacturers?
Yes. All our 5M timing belts are manufactured in accordance with the ISO 13050 standard for metric-pitch curvilinear (HTD) profile systems and are fully dimensionally interchangeable with equivalent-profile 5M timing belts from other mainstream international manufacturers, ensuring universal replacement compatibility.
Do you list individual 5M model numbers on this page?
No. All pitch lengths and widths are available through the product options and trading variations above. This page describes the 5M timing belt type as a whole, not an individual model.
